Since
1972 the Choir has enjoyed a growth in numerical and musical strength
as well as considerable popularity.
In
this time it has raised more than fifty thousand pounds for deserving
causes and made a number of successful international 'exchange'
visits - to Canada, Holland, Eire, Germany, Greece, The Czech
Republic and the United States.
The
Choir has also performed with many celebrity soloists, such as
Helen Shapiro, Humphrey Lyttleton, Vince Hill, Roy Castle and
Stuart Burrows, splendid bands like the Royal Marines, the Combined
Band of Guards and the Band of the Military School of Music, as
well as fine choirs, a recent one being Nova Ceska Pisen from
the University of West Bohemia in the Czech Republic. Other recent
artistes are 'Grafitti Classics', 'Chaconne Brass' and 'Bones
Apart' all featuring brilliant young innovative musicians.
Carlton
endorses its love of music by annually awarding the 'Carlton
Music Makers Trophy' to the New College, Nottingham music
student who has made the most progress in solo performance.
The Carlton Male Voice choir has made five recordings and is now
looking forward to its centenary with eager anticipation.
