Give Thanks and Sing!

"Sweet is the work my God my King,
To praise Thy name, Give Thanks and Sing"

These words mark the opening to the hymn that was adopted by Carlton male Voice Choir as a signature tune early in its history. Visitors to rehearsals hear the choir start the evening by singing "Deep Harmony" in tribute to choristers who have gone before and as an anthem to consolidate the unity of the modern choir. On this recording the Choir "gives thanks" for a century of male voice singing in the Carlton area of Nottingham. The front cover features a photograph of Mattie Mann, the Netherfield coal merchant who is recognised as the founder of the choir.
