Rebecca Evans

Rebecca
Evans is regarded by some as one of the world's top five sopranos,
having performed regularly with the Welsh National Opera and at
the Royal Opera House, Covent Garden, and established a major
operatic career in America with the Chicago and San Francisco
Operas and the Metropolitan Opera, New York.
Her extensive concert experience includes appearances at the BBC
Proms and at the Edinburgh International Festival; Gala Concerts
with Andrea Bocelli and with Luciano Pavarotti; and a Gala Concert
to celebrate the opening of the Welsh Assembly in the presence
of Her Majesty the Queen and HRH the Prince of Wales. She frequently
joins Bryn Terfel in concert and has also hosted her own BBC television
series 'A Touch of Classics' with the BBC National Orchestra of
Wales. Rebecca is a natural stage animal with real star presence.
The music critic Dominic McHugh called her 'the down-to-earth
diva', adding that "a more thoroughly normal, unaffected opera
singer could not be imagined". Before becoming a professional
singer, Rebecca trained to be a nurse. She says, "Then I met Bryn
Terfel at a concert - he was one soloist, I was the other. He
asked me what I was doing, and I told him I'd just got a junior
assistant's post in an operating theatre. 'You fool!' he said.
'You need to go to the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, and
you need to go NOW!" (which, of course, she did!)
Hugh Canning recently wrote in 'The Sunday Times' that "as well
as being a wonderful singer, Evans is a very nice lady, entirely
unspoilt by success in a business that turns out demanding divas
and monstrous egos". Rebecca is a firm favourite with Welsh male
voice choirs and has frequently appeared in concert with the likes
of Morriston Orpheus and Pendyrus where combined numbers featuring
Rebecca and the choir are highlights!
