Carlton
celebrated its centenary in style at Nottingham's Royal
Concert Hall
before an audience of 1,400.
Paying
homage to its roots in the industrial community of Netherfield
the Choir invited special guests Dorothy Baguley, Eva Whitfield,
Jack Hayes and Bert White, local citizens who were born,
like the Choir, in the first decade of the last century.
The Celebration Concert 'Singing for D.A.R.E.' was a glittering
evening with the Choir appearing in new uniforms which reversed
traditional colours with gold jackets symbolising the optimism
of starting a second century.
The
Choir, under the assured leadership of Terry Moore and boasting
a record eighty-six on stage, opened both halves of the
concert with a varied and entertaining selection which started
with Cwm Rhondda, featured American Trilogy and Bohemian
Rhapsody and climaxed with Nessun Dorma executed in near-perfect
Italian.
